Sikkim Tour Package Overview

Sikkim will take you to all the natural wonders as the high mountain passes, pristine glaciers, ice-cold rivers, hot springs in contrast to that, alpine lakes, and a lot more.

Monks on Wheels in association with Muddie Trails takes you to the stunningly beautiful state of Sikkim nestled in the Himalayas known for its eco-friendly and sustainable tourism policies, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and adventurers seeking an authentic Himalayan experience.

In this backpacking trip, we will cover all the attractions in Sikkim, both East and North, and will also be visiting the capital city of Sikkim, Gangtok.

Our journey will start in the East, with a visit to the top attraction there, like the Tsomgo Lake, which is a natural wonder that changes its color with the seasons, the Baba Mandir and the ghost story associated with it, and the Indo- China border post, the NathuLa Pass.

When we move to the north, we will be visiting the dreamy Gurudongmar Lake, which in winter remains frozen and in summers enchants us with its amazing beauty. This lake is one of the lakes that is situated at such a high altitude that is open to visitors.

The Lachung village, where we will be staying is a picturesque village by the mountains, blessed with mighty waterfalls, orchards of apricot and apple, and many handicraft centers.

We will also be visiting the “valley of flowers” in Yumthang, which is a part of the Lachung valley. Located by the banks of the Lachung river, a tributary of the main river that originates from Sikkim, Teesta, the valley is also abundant with many species of Rhododendron flowers. Hot springs that are said to have medicinal properties are also among the main attractions of Sikkim.

Sikkim is the perfect blend of nature and beauty, and the intervention of humans has only made it more beautiful. The scenic bridges adorned with colorful prayer flags, monasteries, and temples, everything is balanced and closely knit with nature, which will bring peace to our minds.

So, what are you waiting for? Join us on this soul-soothing backpacking trip into nature.

  3. We will start our trip with our journey towards Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, through curvy roads made astonishingly beautiful by the Teesta river flowing parallelly.
  4. It will take us about 5 hours to reach our destination which covers a distance of 200 Km. We will be stopping in between for lunch also.
  5. We will reach our guest house late in the evening and get checked in. There you can take a walk on Gangtok’s mall road, the MG Marg. You could shop and grab dinner there and try out the tasty momos and chow there.
  6. We will rest for a good day tomorrow.

Day 2:

  1. Our day will begin early, and we will have our breakfast at the guest house.
  2. We will start the day with a trip to Tsomgo Lake, which is oval in shape and a delight to the eyes. The lake is also called Changu Lake and is a place that welcomes varieties of migratory birds and has Yaks and Red Pandas as well.
  3. We will then head to the Baba Mandir, which is situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet. The place has an intriguing ghost story revolving around Baba Harbhajan Singh, who was an Army personnel in the 1960s.
  4. Then we will further go upwards to an altitude of 14,100 feet to the Nathula Pass on the Indo- China border. We will require a pre-approved special permit to get to the pass.
  5. This pass has an important role in the strategic actions of the Indian Army, which is one of the few Himalayan border posts that are open to visitors.
  6. We will head back to our guest house after spending enough time at the border.
  7. After our social gathering and dinner, we will rest for the night.

Since the area is highly protected, you can spot Army vehicles now and then on the way. We will have our breakfast in between the journey.
  2. The journey is not going to be an easy one. Since by then, we will be several thousand feet above sea level, oxygen levels will be low, making it uncomfortable for us in the beginning. But you will get used to it soon. The curvy roads that we have to take also will affect our bodies.
  3. Even though the journey is tiring, the spectacular views at the top will make all your exhaustion vanish in an instant.
  4. We will spend ample time by the lake, enjoy the scenery and take a lot of pictures before returning to the place from where we started today. We will have lunch before getting on the journey back to Lachen and Chungthang village.

  6. Take a rest at the guest house afterward.

Day 5:

  4. Here, we can also find hot springs that stay at 50 to 60 degrees even in extreme winters when all the surrounding freezes. The medicinal hot springs of Yumthang are also rich in Sulphur and other mineral contents. Across the Lachung river, we can find a colorful walking bridge, made vibrant by the many numbers of prayer flags tied on them. It is on either side of this bridge where the hot springs are located.
  5. For lunch, we will try the local foods at the Yumthang market.
  6. When we continue upwards from Yumthang, we will reach a place called Zero Point, further from which civilians can’t drive on. We will need a special permit to visit this place located at 14,500 feet above sea level.
  7. After that, we will start our journey back to Gangtok late in the afternoon.
  8. We will check in to the guest house in Gangtok and gather together for the final time before our trip ends.
